Chunky Crocheted Basket Pattern
I'm finally posting a crochet basket pattern. Thanks for all the comments and emails. I hope you enjoy the demo and the finished project as much as I do. (Scroll down to see the larger basket diagram)
materials
3 very large yarns (I used Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick on linen)
Hook size L (8.0 mm)

A quick note on the materials:
I would recommend using super bulky to create a stiff or heavy texture. If you are using a smaller wire, you need to connect 3 or more branches.
Do not use larger hooks. The points must fit snugly for the basket to remain stiff and vertical. Tighten the hook (but try not to hurt your hands too much). My next basket will be made of lined hemp (the thick type you can find at Walmart). This thing is a real killing hand. But it's the most powerful thing you can use.

Hint: you have two strings together.
Don't turn around at the end of each round. I walked in every corner. You can work in a continuous spiral if you prefer to remove the seams. (If you choose a seamless version, I recommend that you work the bottom with a seam and then work the body in a continuous circle or spiral as you mark your first stitch.)

Round 1: 8 sc 2. Chain hook
Row 2: 2 msc each. Join Mc. (16 hdc)
Round 3: ch 2, same mam, next mam, (next 2 m, next m) around. Join Mc. (24HDC)
Rnd 4: ch 2, but in the same st, but in the next 2 sts, (2 trs in the next st, but in the next 2 sts). Join Mc. (32hdc)
Rnd 5: 2 ch, mma the same, mma successive 3 stetans, (2 mma successive st, mma successive 3 stetans) around. Join Mc. (40hdc)
Rnd 6: ch 2, same htr, next htr 4 sts, (next 2 htr sts, next htr 4 sts) around. Join Mc. (48hdc)
The next round will be the first row of the body of the basket. They will work on the back of each hdc.
Round 7: ch, sc under the line or on the edge of the first st of the previous round. (Single treble crochets have a line or border on the back of the stitch.) You will work below this line or stitch, not in regular loops.
This leaves two stitch loops.
Creating a seam that separates the bottom of the basket and the body
Continue working around the sc. Enter an MC.
Rnd 8: ch 2, hm next st and around every st. Join Mc.
Round 9: Ch 1, work in the back loop only, in the same sc and around every st. Join Mc.
Round 10: Ch 2, mamm next st and around every st. Join Mc.
Round 11: 1 PC ch in the same st around each st. Join Mc.
Rnd 12: Ch 2, hm next st and around every st. Join Mc.
Row 13: 1 ch, work in the back sts only, in the same st around every st. Join Mc.
You will create the handles in round 14.
Rnd 14: 2 ch, htr in the next 8 sts. Ch 7, skip the next 5 m. Hdc in the next 19 points. Ch 7, skip the next 5 m. Hdc in the next 10 points. join mc
Rnd 15: 1 ch, sc the same and the next 8 sts. Practice 8 mb ch under the range of 7 (adds no points). Sc in the next 19 stitches. Practice 8 sc cha under the interval 7. sc over the next 10 sts.
Finish with a knotless finishing method. You can find photo instructions for this finishing method here
I made a bigger basket ... I prefer a bigger size (I am attaching the photos to a bigger basket)
You will then increase the rotation.
Rounds 1 to 6: see instructions above
Rnd 7: Ch 2, hdc on the same street. Hdc in the next 5 points. (2 htr in next st, 5 htr in next st), join sl st. (56 hdc)
Round 8: Work the back of the tr HD under the line or edge to wrap each sc This round creates a seam (described above)
I added 3 files to the basket body for a larger size. (If you need more detailed instructions on how to get started and access each round, see each round's details for a smaller cart.)
Round 9: twist hdc
10th round: SC corner
Rnd 11: round of dc only in the back loop
Round 12: hdc rotation
Lap 13: SC corner
Round 14: twist hdc
Lap 15: SC corner
Rnd 16: Sc only in the rear ring
Round 17: 2nd round, next htr 9 sts, 9th round, skip 8 sts, next htr 20 sts, 9th round, skip the next 8 sts, next ht 9 sts.
Row 18: Turn sc, carve 10 sc under 9 ch-intervals (not in every st). Merge and complete.
