DIY Dining Table
I know I haven't gone lately. I'm really late reading my blog:. DIY projects have exhausted me. I have worked on some but not many. I have some finished projects, but I can't share them yet. Today I am sharing with you a DIY project that Michael and I completed in Ireland on Saturday. lunch table
We have a large empty sitting room. I thought the table would be perfect.
I found something I liked on Pinterest and went from there. Michael works with a guy who owns a sawmill, so we took the wood from him. On Thursday, Michael came home with pine planks a few feet long and 7 to 8 inches wide.
About a week ago I ordered raw steel hairpin legs from hairpinlegs.com, Michael went to Lowes and bought some 2x4 screws, sandpaper. 10
On Friday morning Michael built a 2x4 tire and I went to Lowes to buy a clear leg sleeve. I cleaned the raw steel legs and sprayed them with an opaque clear coat to protect them from rust. While working on my legs, Michael flipped the planks and rotated the plank frame. At 10pm we started sanding, and by 11pm we were ready to put a layer of Minwax Spar Poly on the table. I didn't get the usual Minwax Poly as Spar Poly is best used with water and dining tables to avoid staining the wood. In general, it is better sealed and more durable. Ordinary poly is for furniture such as side tables, coffee tables, etc.
We finished the first layer of polycarbonate in the middle of the night. That's why my pictures are so bad.
Saturday morning we go up the stairs and twist our legs...and voila.
It's far from perfect, but that's why I love it so much. I love these legs (everything is really modern from the Middle Ages).
final size:
78 inches
Width 36 inches
2.5 inches thick or deep
Threads:
Wood for the top (we used five 7-8 "boards")
for 2x4 . frame
m screws. 10 (2" a lot, because the top framed is 2.5")
sandpaper
Standard table height is four 28" (3 post) four pin legs that are 28"
MinWax Spar Poly:
Indoor/outdoor clear matte varnish (to cover the foot)
used tool.
Green sponge (to clean the feet).
coffee grinder
Abrasive paper (different fibers)
Saw (we used a miter saw)
punch out:
և Of course the tape
I hope my next post is about a knitting project I haven't had the chance to share yet. I'll ask permission today, and I'll see how long I have to wait. I am very excited to share it with you, but I have to be patient.
have a good week!
