Still Trying to Customize Hat Sizes
Yes, I am still trying to adjust the size of the cap. Over the last few months I have received a lot of comments and questions about hat sizes. Since we all work with knitting of different weights/weights, it is impossible to determine a specific number of stitches. The ratings were great, but they didn't tell us when to stop climbing. This has always been my problem with gifts. When I do something about Ireland I put it in their head and see how it fits and then I change it. But when it comes to making gifts, it's hard to guess.
I decided to use for my experiments all the Irish hats that I was born with. I compared the hat to a photo of him wearing it. I looked at the date to determine how old she was when she got dressed. Here's how to measure size.
This is a generic scheme, but still very useful... Better than nothing. The dimensions shown in the table are the circle sizes you should get when zooming in. When you reach the desired size, stop growing and then knit evenly.
Age circle diameter
newborn 4 inches
3-6 months 5.5 inches
9-12 months 6-6.5 inches
24 months 6.5-6.75 inches
Babies and babies 7 inches
Adult female 7.25-7.5 cm
For example, if you're making a hat for a 12 month old...grow it up to about 6-6.5 inches long, then continue each row evenly without raising them.
The hat presented above is for a one year old child. So as you can see, the circumference is 6 inches.
The final length will also change with age.
Long last life
5 inch boy
3-6 months 6-6.5 inches
9-12 months 7 inches
24 months 7-7.5 inches
Infants and babies 7.5-8 inches
Mature women 8.5-9 centimeters
Amazing 10" adult
The blue hat above is for a 12 month old baby, so I have to work a few more inches.
This green beret is designed for teens or adult women, so I'll be standing about 9 inches tall.
Edit: if you make a hat with earplugs, the length will be slightly reduced.
Of course, these measurements are not accurate for all children and adults. I made a hat for a large head of a grown woman over 10 inches tall. This is a general measurement that will help a bit, rather than trying to make a blind hat without a draft :D
I hope this helps.
Have a nice week!
