Still Trying to Customize Hat Sizes
Yes, I'm still trying to fit the hat size. Over the past few months, I've received a lot of comments and questions about hat sizes. Given that we all weave with different pressure/size, it is impossible to sew a certain number of stitches. The graphics are good, but they don't tell us when to stop. I've always had a problem with gifts. If I do something for Ireland, I'll just put it on their heads and see how it fits and then adapt from there. But when it comes to gifts, it's hard to guess.
I decided to sample all the Irish hats I made for him. I compared the hat to the photograph of him wearing it. I looked at the date to see how old he was when he wore it. This is how I measure.
It's a simple diagram, but very useful... better than nothing. The dimensions indicated in the table reflect the size of the circle, which will be obtained when it is enlarged. When it reaches the right size, stop growing and evenly touch it.
The age of the circle 's diameter.
newborn 4 inches
3-6 months 5.5 inches
9-12 months 6-6.5 inches
24 months 6.5-6.75 inches
7 inch babies and toddlers
Adult female 7.25-7.5 inches
For example, if you are knitting a beanie for a 12 month old baby... roll it up until you have a 6-6.5 inch circle, then continue to knit each circle evenly, without any increase.
The cap in the photo above is for a child of about a year. So you can see that the circumference is exactly 6 inches.
The final length depends on age.
Age period of expiration
newborn 5 inches
3-6 months 6-6.5 inches
9-12 months 7 inches
24 months 7-7.5 inches
Infants and toddlers measure 7.5 to 8 inches
Adult female 8.5-9 inches
10" large adult
The blue cap above is for a 12 month old so I need to touch it a few more inches.
This green hat is for teens or adult women, so I'll stick with about 9 inches.
Edit: If you make a hat with earplugs, the length will decrease a little.
Of course, these measurements are not accurate for all children and adults. I have made hats for older women over 10 inches long. These are just a few of the goal setting programs you can use.
I hope this works.
Have a nice week!
