Still Trying to Customize Hat Sizes
Yes, I always try to adjust the size of the caps. In recent months I have received many comments and questions about the size of the caps. As we all knit with different tension / gauge, it is impossible to give the exact number of stitches. The rankings are great, but they don't tell us when to stop growing. This has always been my problem with gifts. If I do something for Ireland, I will flip it over and see how it goes, and then I will adapt. But when you have to give a gift, it's hard to guess.
I decided to use all the Irish hats I had made for her since she was born, from my experience. He compared the hats to the photos in which he wears them. He looked at the dates to determine their age at the time of use. Here's how I measured the size.
This is a generic table, but it's still very useful ... better than nothing. The measurements in the table are the size of the circle you should have when you zoom in / out. When you reach the desired size, stop increasing and work later.
diameter of the age circle
newborn 4 inches
3-6 months 5.5 inches
9-12 months 6-6.5 inches
24 months 6.5-6.75 inch
7 inch small and small
Adult female 7.25-7.5 cm
For example, if you're making a hat for a 12 month old baby ... increase until you get a circle 6 to 6.5 inches in diameter, then keep knitting each circle evenly without increasing.
The hat pictured above would be for a baby around one year old. So, as you can see, the circle measures exactly 6 inches.
The final length also varies with age.
longevity is over
newborn 5 inches
3-6 months 6-6.5 inches
9-12 months 7 inches
24 months 7-7.5 "
Small and compact from 7.5 to 8 inches
adult female 8.5-9 cm
adult 10 inches
The blue hat above will be for a 12 month old baby, so I'll have to keep knitting for a few more inches.
This green hat is for a teen girl or a grown woman, so I will stop at about 9 inches.
Edit: if I make a hat, the length will decrease slightly.
Of course, these measurements are not accurate for all children and adults. I made hats for the big heads of adult women over 10 inches tall. These are general steps designed to give a little help, rather than trying to make a blind hat without a guide: D
I hope this helps.
Have a good week!
