I tried to sit down and write instructions for carpets... it's very simple. I didn't end up with solid colors, but I ended up with stripes.
It turned out to be smaller than I originally thought, but it is very easy to make another one, larger.
This is done using all floating points. I like the look of the low points. This gives you a knitted look. It is the thickness that creates the beauty of the patch seams.

Extra bulk yarn (6 weight) (I used Lion Hometown USA brand)

Note. Make sure you only loop back for each point.
Chapter 33
1st row: Turn over each chain stitch. (32 m)
Row 2: 1st w, st ss, 1 loop cross back, turn (32 st)
Rows 3-87: Repeat row 2, following the color sequence.

Take a woolen needle and carefully weave all these ends. With sl dots... it's hard to hide those ends.
If you want a wider rug, start with more wires...eg 40 or 45 instead of 33. If you want your rug to be longer, add more rows.
