Accidental Cowl

This balaclava was an accident...hence the name. I had no intention of doing another hood this winter and somehow I did.
In fact, I tried to make a poncho and messed up. So I put it down and let it sit for a few days. A few weeks ago I took it back and sewed the stitches together. Putting it around my neck, I noticed that I had made another balaclava. I'm glad I ruined this band. I wear this balaclava regularly. It's smaller and lighter than others I've made and it's definitely my most comfortable balaclava.

If you are interested in the title and/or description: This model is original. The idea was inspired by a bug (which is why it has that name) and not by someone else. The term "accident" is common and is often found in the hook. The title, material, design and description are basic and not anyone's idea. The name will remain the same . As this is a free model, it is not related to any other original or finished item with the same name.

This hood is very easy to make and what makes it great is its texture. I used heavy weight yarn with a large hook and the fabric came out great. Seams aren't as attractive as soft seams , but they're easy to wear.

Loose and open seams

But once you apply it, you'll notice how soft and drapey it is.

I think you also. It only took one sheet of Patton Shetland Chunky. I will not trade yarn for this. The yarn makes the hood absolute. If you don't have this thread, use at least a thick thread. You can't get the same softness and drape with very heavy or poor material (for this project).

This is a great model for beginners.

Here's what I did by accident:

Material
Size 5 bulky yarn (I used Patton Shetland Chunky in Oxford Grey)
Hook size M or N.
yarn needle

The measure
7.5 inches (18 cm) wide
54 inches (137 cm) in circumference

Knit not too tight
work in circles
The first 2nd or 3rd chain stitch of each row counts as the first stitch.

Ch 78 free

Connect v to SL st

Round 1: ch 2, next ch from ch and around each ch. Connect the first M of the fields with the Rd.

Row 2: 3 then, sc in next st and round each st. Connect the first M of the fields with the Rd.

Rows 3 to 8: repeat row 2.

Round 9: ch 2, each st in ch.

Knit end and end.

What I really like is the shiny yarn...so I recommend using that. I don't know if you get the same effect unless you use something similar.

See... it's very simple.
