Mont Blanc Jacket: a new furry adventure
Although I work as a fashion designer from time to time, I don't (almost) follow fashion trends. I usually do what I love and hope others enjoy my work. But, perhaps, no one will argue with the fact that some designs, shapes, textures and even colors look timeless and modern, regardless of the current trend. Fur is one of them.
When I was a teenager, I made my own sweaters. It ties in a V-neck and I add cuffs with a fur collar and knitted eyes. It was a very popular dress. When Scheepjes Furry Tales was first introduced, I immediately thought of this sweater. And this time the idea of recreating came with dislike. Since Furry Tales is a fur yarn, there was no need for knitting loops. So here it is! My Mont Blanc jacket!
The template is available on Ravelry HERE and Etsy HERE for 25% off until Monday, September 13, 2021. You don't need to apply any code because the price you see is already discounted.
The fur is a thick yarn and I decided to use Sheep Stone Washed XL (Aran Weight) to match the thickness of the body.
Shade Cinderella (Free Tales) matches Stone Washed XL Smoky Quartz. Both yarns come in a wide range of colors and it's amazing how many combinations can be made. Either by intimate coincidences, or by great contrasts.
You can find both yarns at your local Scheepjes stores or online: Wool Warehouse * (UK, international shipping), Caro's Atelier * (Netherlands, Europe), Taemombo * (US and Canada), Junkie yarn (US only).
The Mont Blanc jacket is rated for 4-8 inches (10-20 cm) of positive chest comfort and 2 3-3 inches (6-8 cm) of positive shoulder comfort. The jacket is sewn from top to bottom without seams. First, a yoke is knitted that separates the body and arms, and simultaneously with the addition of raglan, a V-shaped neckline is formed. The lower part is woven from the bottom up. Sleeves are knitted at the bottom and hairy cuffs are added at the bottom. The length of the body and arms is easily adjustable.
I have two details about this jacket. The first back is the capable layer. I've been dreaming about this for a long time and finally the Mont Blanc jacket looked like the perfect piece.
At the same time, like the rest of the yoke, the plate is very easy to touch upside down. And when the yoke is ready, the board is built by hand. This fabric is optional and you can make the jacket without it.
And another detailed stealth bag! It is hard to see in front of them, because there is no SIM card. The bags have a lining that sticks to the lower body. Again, if you don't like the bag, you can skip it.
The Mont Blanc Jacket Pattern comes with helpful video instructions that will guide you through each step all the way to the chain cord collar. Please note that the example does not describe the progress.
But if you are hesitant to weave fur, I have found a very simple way to weave fur easier and faster. You don't have to try to see (or feel) the seams, because you will be working with fairly large chains. Knitting with fur does not look so comfortable and satisfying!
The Mont Blanc jacket is available in 9 (!) sizes for bust sizes from 32" to 48". Bust finished (elastic band closed): 89.5 (93.5: 99.5: 104.5: 111) (114.5: 122: 133.5: 141) cm / 35¼ (36¾: 39¼: 41¼: 45¼: 39¼: 41¼: 45¼: 45.45)
